Have you shipped my order? Before contacting us, check your junk e-mail or spam e-mail box. If you have not allowed e-mail from scott@scottscomics.com, any e-mail from me might be sitting in there. We will send you a tracking number (for US shipments), or at least an e-mail that the shipment has been mailed. The typical turnaround time is 2-6 business days for U.S. credit card/paypal orders. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR ORDER NUMBER ON ALL E-MAILS.   E-MAIL ME FIRST BEFORE CALLING.

How long will it take you to ship my order? Please remember that Scott's Comics is a part time business, so the typical turnaround time on U.S. orders is 2-10 business days and most orders ship on Saturday. Bigger orders (50+ books) may take a full 2 weeks . Foreign insured orders usually ship within 2 weeks, as I have to specially handle those orders and these orders ship on Saturdays only. You will receive an e-mail when your order ships. Before contacting us, please check your junk e-mail or spam e-mail box.

How can the tracking numbers you send me get through on my e-mail? Due to the increase in spam and e-mail viruses, e-mail service providers have tightened their filters in the attempt to block as much spam as possible. Unfortuneately, this also results in some Scott's Comics e-mails being blocked. If you are not receiving my tracking e-mails, make sure that e-mails from scott@scottscomics.com are not filtered to your junk or bulk folder. Please add scott@scottscomics.com to your list of trusted senders. 1. Check your filtered e-mail. Some spam is stored and available for your review. A periodic check of these items will allow you to unblock the sender adn allow future e-mail delivery. Some ISPs, however, may automcatically delete my e-mai. 2. For Outlook users, add scott@scottscomics.com to your "Safe Senders" list. 3. For AOL, place the domain scottscomics.com in your address book. 4. For Hotmail, place the domain scottscomics.com in your address book. 4. Yahoo! Mail. If one of our e-mails is filtered in your bulk folder, open the message and click the "this is not spam" link next to the "From" field. 5. If subsequent messsages continue to be filtered, call or e-mail your ISP's tech support and specifically ask how you can you be sure you receive all e-mails from scottscomics.com. Follow their instructions.

I ordered over $50 and I am still getting charged for shipping. The free standard shipping is not showing up on the shopping cart. What is wrong? You must choose the shipping option of orders over $50, otherwise the zero shipping will not show up when checking out!

I found some old comics - how much are they worth? How do you sell them? Scroll to the very bottom of this page for a detailed discussion of comic values and selling comic books.

What is comic book grading? Comic grading is simply rating a comic book based on its condition. Books that have no defects such as folds, tears, coupons out, water stains are more highly sought after by collectors than books that have these defects. A comic is graded by the following grades (in descending order): Mint, Near Mint, Very Fine, Fine, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor, and Coverless. Spawn #1 in Very Fine is considered better and more sought out than the same book in Good condition. Likewise, the price of a Very Fine copy is higher than a Good copy. Scott's Comics doesn't grade comics as "mint". A more detailed discussion of comic book grading can be found here. Please be aware that on popular titles such as Sonic, X-Men, and Spider-Man, lower grade books sell faster than higher grade copies as collectors just want to complete their collection with reading copies.

How do you ship your books? All orders are sent in shipping boxes. I pad all box orders on the sides to handle a drop by the post office. Scott's Comics went online in 1997 and we have received only 3 complaints for damage, and that was where the post office managed the boxes. We take getting books to you in the condition you ordered them very seriously.

What if I am not happy with my order? What is your return policy? Any order, or part of any order can be returned if not as advertised, within 7 days after receipt of the product. ALL RETURNS MUST INCLUDE A COMPLETED AND SIGNED REUTURN AUTHORIZATION FORM. In particular, if a comic has been misgraded we will accept a return try and provide a replacement, if possible. We will reimuburse you up to $3 shipping fees to return misgraded books, if we agree that the book has been misgraded. If we do not agree that the book was misgraded, we will refund the purchase price only. If we sent a book in error, we will get you the correct book, and reimburse you for shipping. For all other returns (I don't want the item, I ordered the wrong item, or if you would rather have a direct sales copy instead of a newstand), we will accept returns within 7 days after receipt. However, you must pay return postage and we charge a 10% restocking fee. Be sure of what and need before you order it!! If I make a mistake, I'll fix it at no cost to you. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR ORDER NUMBER ON ALL E-MAILS. All returns must be shipped in boxes or sandwiched between heavy cardboard that is 1" bigger than the comic on all sides. Returns without heavy cardboard protection (like sticking the comic in a bag/comic backboard and sticking it in a manila envelope) will be refused. All returns must be in the same condition sent to you.

What is your chargeback policy? Scott's Comics deals with lots of credit card transactions. Unfortunately, some customers use credit card policies dishonestly to try to obtain free product. If a customer initiates a credit card chargeback, we will charge you a $35 fee and turn the account over to a collection agency in addition to purhase price, on every chargeback order, IF WE BELIEVE you have purchased the product and initiated a chargeback in bad faith. STEALING IS WRONG!!! If you are unhappy with your order, please contact us and we will do the best to work with you to meet your satisfaction.

I'm adding books and they are not showing up in the shopping cart. What is wrong? Chances are you are checking the boxes on the listing and then NOT pressing the "Buy Selected Items" button. You must press the "Buy Selected Items" button to add them to your cart.

What can I get you to do to ship my order faster?

To help me get your books out faster you can do the following:

  • Include the correct billing address for your credit card if different from the shipping address.
  • Be sure your credit card has funds.
  • Include a correct shipping address and e-mail address.
  • If you choose free US shipping when checking out, be sure your order over $50.   I am very strict on the $50 minimum.
  • Pay by credit card or credit card though paypal.
  • Don’t change your order after you place it, meaning you are ordering the correct issues that you need.

If your order has problems (bad credit card, etc.) I simply move on to the next customer and the books are not held for you, and the books in your order may sell to other customers.

Do you Bag/Board all the comics you sell? Unlike many other comic dealers I pack my books well before shipment. Therefore, I do not bag and board every comic I send out, mainly due to cost and time.  IF I BAGGED AND BOARDED ALL MY COMICS I WOULD HAVE TO RAISE PRICES AND SHIPPING FEES.  A quick survey of customers some time ago indicated they did not want bags and boards if it increased the costs of the comics. If I buy a comic bagged and boarded, it usually stays that way. Expect newer comics, sale comics, and books less than a buck will be grouped (4-6 comics) in a bag. Expect most other books outside those categories to be individually bagged,or individually bagged and boarded.  Most comics over $5 in near mint are shipped bagged and boarded.  I ship ALL MY ORDERS IN BOXES TO PREVENT DAMAGE.

If I buy a lot of stuff can I get a discount?  In an effort to keep prices low, Scott's Comics no longer offers discounts on larger orders. Although we always appreciate larger orders, my past experience has been that larger orders are usually for items that would sell anyway at full price and not for slower selling items. Therefore, we started the sale section to move out overstock and slower selling items and made them accessible to everyone. If you are looking for deals and cheap reading look there! Also remember that all United States orders over $50 are shipped, insured and tracked for FREE!

If I don't see it on your site, do you take want lists? If you let me know what comics you need, I may be able to dig it up for you. If I can't get it for you, I'll try to send you to someone who may.

I don't really deal in Golden Age or high grade Silver Age and I recommend you seeking out other dealers for these books. I specialize in 1960's to present comics.

How much do you charge for shipping? How much do I have to buy to get FREE shipping? For U.S. orders UNDER $50, standard shipping (meaning whatever type of shipping your order qualifies for) starts at $4.99 and increases due to package weight. U.S. Orders OVER $50 have FREE standard shipping and discounted priority mail shipping. Please choose that shipping option when checking out. I am sorry, but at this time, we do not offer a free shipping option for foreign orders due to higher processing costs.   To get the shopping cart to show free shipping you MUST CHOOSE THE SHIPPING OPTION OF ORDERS OVER $50 WHEN CHECKING OUT.

Do you have a minimum order? Nope.

Do you offer a new customer discount? Although we always appreciate new customers, I do not offer a discount at this time.

Why are some prices listed higher than the guide prices? I am occasionally asked "why is your price over guide??" Most books that I have over guide are 1970's books or hot new comics. I do not feel a book that is 20-25 years old should be priced at $4 in near mint (like some 1970s comics), as Overstreet may state. This is lower than most new comics! Some of these books can be very hard to find! In many of these cases, I will be glad to pay guide to find more.

Some books are very difficult to find, and I pay over guide to get them. For example, GI Joe #155 (last issue) - I sell them repeatly for $125 because it is difficult to find, it guides at $20. I will be happy to buy all the nm copies you have for $20 each.

Remember that price guides are averages of what dealers that report to that price guide are selling books for. If they have no copies of Sonic or they don't bother carrying it, do you think they will increase their price? Also, I base some of my prices, especially newer or hot items, on being able to restock the books.

Why should I order from Scott's Comics?   I try my best to be fair, grade accurately, and give good service. You are not dealing with a big corporation - you are dealing with a one-man show with a bunch of comics.

I am also a member of the EPublic Eye Web Site Monitoring Service (you may have seen that big speaker on my main page). They monitor web businesses for reliability and customer service. If you want reports on my business or want to file reports, please click above.

I am dealer. Will you wholesale your comics to me? I am sorry, due to time constraints I do not have time to deal with wholesale orders. And past experience indicates that most books other dealers want are ones I can sell at full price anyway. However, feel free to check out my sale section to see if there any books you would be interested in.

Do you have a printed catalog? I do not have a printed catalog. It changes too fast, and is too expensive to print. Basically everything is listed on the web.    I do have a link on the main page of a text file that you can download all books in inventory.

Do you carry Mature Readers or Adult Comics? A book denoted with a (Mature Readers) note (like Sandman and other Vertigo books) means it would be rated PG-13 or R if they were a movie. Recently in fact, for personal reasons, I am choosing to not to order or restock many Mature Readers comics, so my selection will get weaker as time passes. PLEASE ASSUME ALL COMICS WOULD BE RATED PG AND ARE NOT FOR ALL AGES! I do not deal in "adult comics" and I suggest you search out other dealers to find these books. Scott's Comics makes no guarantee of the content of any of its books, but I try to monitor the best that I can.

Do you have.... (fill in the blank)?  Basically, 90% of my inventory is listed and the other 10% I am continually getting online. Chances are if I don't list it, I don't have it, especially on hot newer books or pre-1980s comics. (They get top priority to get on the site).  I will be glad to take want lists (e-mail me!) and I may be able to pick them up somewhere else. Rare and hard to find issues are very difficult to keep in stock. I am here to help you!

Do you offer new comic subscriptions?  Yes, I do, but I am currently maxed out on the subscribers I can handle at this time.

How long does it take you to respond to e-mail? I usually respond to most simple questions within 48 hours. Here is my E-MAIL address.

Will you send me a scan of Possom Boy #6? I am sorry but due to time constraints, I don't have the opportunity to send individual scans of books.

How accurate is your inventory? About 96% on recent issues, 95% on older issues, and 90% on one of a kind Sonic The Hedgehogs. The inventory is up to date based on the date on the main page, and I usually update the inventory about once a week. However, books may sell between that date and when I receive your payment, or maybe someone beat you to that particular book. Another factor is that all the books my site must be removed from the system manually and and unfortunately, that does not always happen. You will not be billed or you will be credited for any books not in stock, unless you list alternates. If you order something that I can get on a reorder I will let you know if you want to wait for the reorder. Orders placed by mail have the highest odds of not being completely filled because the order is not pulled until payment is received and cleared, and what is in stock when you placed a mail order may be different by the time additional orders have been filled and your payment is received. To have the best chance of getting what you want, pay for your order immediately using credit card or paypal. I am sorry, I cannot reserve books for you until payment is received and orders are filled on a first-come first served basis (In the past, I tried reserving books and I had too many non-payments).

Also, at one time in the past I had the shopping cart delete "sold" books from inventory. This didn't work as about 1 out of 20 orders don't complete for whatever reason (card over limit, never sent payment, fraudulent, customer ordered twice, etc.) so I was losing sales because books that were reserved due to these bad orders were removed from inventory.

If you are out of stock on a book, do you put it on backorder? No, unless I can put my hands on quickly (like less than 2 weeks). Unless I tell you otherwise, feel free to buy any sold out or out of stock items from other dealers. I will notify you if any books are out of stock.

Are all your books first printings? Unless otherwise noted, yes.

What credit cards do you accept? Master Card, Visa, Discover, are the only credit cards I accept at this time. I also do accept Paypal. I am sorry but due to high fees I no longer accept American Express.

Will my entire order ship at once? Unless there is something out of stock that I can put my hands on quickly, like a reorder, yes.

Can I add books after I have place my order? Yes, please place another order and in the special instructions box while checking out, put a statement that you would like to combine orders. This is no problem if your order hasn't been processed. You will save shipping costs if you combine orders! The only way you can qualify for US free shipping if you do this is if one of your orders is greater than $50.

Can I order by phone? Since this is a business on the side for me, and I am rarely around my phone, I am sorry that I cannot take phone orders. Please place your order online. If you are uncomfortable placing a credit card order through my secure online shopping site, please send a check or money order by mail.

I want to make a website selling comics. Can you help me set one up or give me some advice? I'm not going to help you set one up, but I can give you some advice. It will cost $3-5,000, maybe more, to set up a secure website with a shopping cart with your own domain name. Factor in about $1-2,000 for misc. expenses like a computer, fax machine, copier, scales, phone line, licenses/fees, bank accounts, etc. You'd need to spend about $1700/month on new comics to get 50% off to even compete with the big websites. You'd need to advertise, maybe $500/month and web hosting ~$100/month. Every comic site has new comics - what will set your site apart from others? About 35-40% of my sales comes from new comics (I call new comics the last 6 months), the rest comes from the 100K back issues I've accumulated. I couldn't survive just selling new comics. So if you have got lots of $$ to drop, lots of patience, and a lot of spare time, this type of business might be for you.

What is a trade paperback(tpb)? Trade Paperbacks are a single unit reprinting of previously released comic books with a soft cover. They usually contain a single story arc containing a collection of related comics. They are becoming the best and most economical way to buy great comics stories.

What is a back issue? Back issue is a term used in comic collecting that refers to any comic issue that isn't current. So whether a comic came last year or in 1965 it falls under the term of back issue.

How do I identify my comics? Identifying a comic book is not as easy as just looking at the cover. The easiest way to find the exact title, issue number, and publication date for your comic book is to look for the indicia, the block of small type which is usually located inside the front cover or on the first page. Since some characters appear in multiple titles, it is necessary to consult the indicia to make sure you get all the correct information.

I found some old comics - how much are they worth? How do you sell them? You would be astonished at how often I get this question. There are a lot of things to be considered when grading and pricing a comic, and it simply cannot be accessed online. I can't hold it so I have a tough time appraising it. There are 2 questions: How much is worth to you personally & how much is it worth retail? The most widely accepted authority on grading comics is the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, which I can order you a copy of, or you may be able to find it at your local bookstore. Here is a link to an online price guide.

Before you can tell how much your comics are worth, you must make out a detailed list, including the grade (otherwise known as condition) according to the Overstreet Price Guide), and title & issue number. If you think that this is too much work, you can always take your comics to a dealer and they might buy them from you at much less than the retail price, depending on demand and how fast the dealer is able to sell the book. Most dealers pay 10-50% of Overstreet Price Guide for comic books that they can sell quickly. Other slower selling books are purchased at pennies on the dollar, because they will have to be heavily discounted or the dealer just doesn't need them. If a dealer already has 10 copies of Wolverine #1, he is just not going to pay much for another one. However, if he doesn't have any in stock, and has other customers asking for it, he will likely want it. Scott's Comics may be interested if you have list with title, number, and condition, and a price you want for the lot. (I don't make offers for books - I jump at the best deals). If you want me to buy your books, make me a deal I cannot refuse! Information on selling to Scott's Comics can be found here.

If you are new to the comic business, let me educate you a little on it. Your expectations of worth are probably not realistic especially if your collection is comprised of mostly 1980s to present. There are not people lining up to buy your set of Reign of Superman and Mantra, or Captain Atom #17-26. Even in older comics, only a few major titles are steady, but not quick sellers. Based on Overstreet or Wizard, your collection may be worth hundreds or thousands, and it may be an impressive collection, but I am not intrested in paying Overstreet because I am trying to make a profit. If I pay $5 for a comic and sell it for $5 it doesn't help me pay for my costs or time. If you are a seller that wants top dollar (near full price guide value) for your collection you need to go into business for yourself, and it may take you years to move your collection. You take the time to sell them, scanning them, bagging and boarding them, grading them, setting up at shows, ebay fees, website fees, taxes, rent, packing them up to ship, etc. You will also find that some books sell quickly and some will sit, and sit, and sit and never sell at full price. If you decide to go that route, and allow your collection to be cherry picked, and you sell the key or hot books, the leftovers that you cannot sell will be even less attractive to a dealer in the future. A collection with some good books in it is far more attractive to a dealer. So not unless you are willing to do the selling yourself, forget getting full guide for any comics from a dealer.

Once you have a detailed list you can sell them to a dealer or on E-bay. You will likely make more if you sell them yourself on ebay, but you have to go through the hassle of scanning & listing them, standing in line at the post office, and paying ebay and paypal fees. If you misrepresent what you are selling, the customer may try to return or give you negative feedback. Most people get about 10-40% of retail on ebay unless it is something special or hot. If you are selling on ebay, be sure you have good scans of the items. If you sell them as a collection you will get less than if you sell them individually. If you sell them individually, some will sell immediately other will not sell at all. Generally the higher the condition and the oldest comics (over 30 years old) sell the best. Discontinued titles and many mini series from the 1980s and up generally have little value, and can usually be purchased cheaply, like 10-20 cents each.
